A Case of subacute thyroiditis detected in a Family Health Center
Subacute thyroiditis is also known as De Quervain’s thyroiditis or granulomatous thyroiditis. The treatment process is lengthy, sometimes lasting weeks or even months. As is well known, family health centers receive referrals regardless of age, gender, or disease. This study aims to highlight cases of subacute thyroiditis, which is known to be the most common cause of painful thyroid gland disorders. In this case, a forty-seven-year-old male patient presented approximately one month ago with complaints of pain radiating from the neck, under the right jaw, and behind the right ear, along with numbness in the tongue and lips. A physical examination revealed tenderness and pain over the thyroid gland area. His history revealed an acute upper respiratory tract infection before the onset of pain, and tests were requested for a preliminary diagnosis of subacute thyroiditis. The test results confirmed the preliminary diagnosis, treatment was initiated, and he was referred to the internal medicine outpatient clinic for further evaluation.
