Abstract

Women belonging to disadvantaged groups are disproportionately affected by Gender-based violence (GBV). This literature review aims to identify the risk factors related to gender-based violence among women in disadvantaged groups, the challenges they face in accessing services, and potential solutions. This study was conducted as a literature review.

Women in disadvantaged groups are at high risk of experiencing gender-based violence. The experiences of women with disabilities, those living in poverty, migrants, adolescents, older adults, divorced women, and LGBT individuals are closely linked to gender inequality, economic vulnerability, stigma, and institutional inadequacies. Violence is not merely an individual act but also a reflection of structural inequalities reproduced through social institutions and norms. Limited access to services, weak legal protection, and insufficient support mechanisms make identification and intervention challenging.

Women in disadvantaged groups are multidimensionally affected by gender-based violence and differ from the general population in terms of both risk factors and barriers. Multidisciplinary, rights-based, and accessible service models are essential for identifying and managing violence. Nurses play a key role in this process through advocacy and early recognition functions. Implementation of the World Health Organization’s RESPECT framework, strengthening of legal regulations, and expansion of support mechanisms are critical strategies for preventing violence against disadvantaged women.
