Abstract
References
Dietary fibers are divided into two: soluble and insoluble fibers. Insoluble fibers help passage of stool by increasing peristaltism in bowels. Soluble fibers gain viscosity in water. It is known that dietary fibers have effects on bowel disseases- such as constipation and spastic colon; lowering effect on Hemoglobin A1c levels in diabetic patients and also effects on lowering mortality and have preventive effects on some kinds of cancer. The family physicians who are responsible for not only treatment of diseases but for also taking precautions towards occurance of some diseases, should be able to give recommendations to their registered patients on healthy nutrition, including consumption of sufficient amount of dietary fibers.
